Stock range has been extended to include a standard modular range:
No waiting for standard gearhead motors
Manufacturers of machinery, devices or plants often have to react very fast to the requirements of the market. This hard competition has made the term time to market an important factor, which is crucial for the business success or failure of a product. Besides the quality and variety of the drive solutions on offer today, this makes fast availability even more important than before, particularly during the construction phase, for sampling or for zero series.
One specialist in drives to react to these requirements is ZEITLAUF® GmbH antriebstechnik & Co KG in Lauf near Nuremberg. For a long time now it has not only been the quality of the products supplied and short delivery times for standard gearhead motors that have become a matter of course. Now, the fast availability standard modular range has been extended even further. The standard drive motors, which are offered in a large number of variants, can be supplied in quantities of 1 to 20 within only two working days. This is possible due to the use of state-of-the-art EDP and warehouse management as well as a cleverly designed modular system. All drive motors in the standard modular range can be assembled economically together with individual parts from this modular system.

A modular system for greater variety
The possibilities from which the user can make his selection are enormously varied (Picture 1): The range of spur and planetary gearhead motors has meantime been extended from 39 to 62 motor and gearhead combinations with finely-staged reduction series and is represented in a clearly structured form in the new Standard Programm Modular System Catalogue (c.f. text in box). Users will find a preliminary overview of the readily available gearhead motors on the freshly installed homepage (www.zeitlauf.com).
With regard to motors the user basically has the choice between split pole motors, capacitor motors, DC motors, DC external rotor motor with or without integrated electronic controls, or brushless DC internal rotor motors. Depending on the type, they work on either 230 V alternating current voltage or 24 V direct current voltage. The drives cover torques ranging up to 30 Nm andoutput speeds up to 1132 rotations per minute. They are long-living, compact and guarantee a high degree of smooth running, e.g. owing to the helical teeth of the first gearhead stage in all cases. Also the brakes, optical or magnetic pulse encoders as well as 1-Q transistor speed governors, as well as switching power supply units for direct current drives with brushes, are also available for delivery within only 48 hours of receipt of order. All products in the standard modular range are, of course, subjected to a 100% outgoing inspection.

Over 60 possible combinations...
The various gearhead motor combinations from the standard modular range facilitate fast, uncomplicated drive solutions for a very wide variety of industrial sectors. Among the typical areas of use are, for example, conveyor technology, medical technology and office technology, as well as door and gate drives, or repro technology. And a remarkable number of variants can be implemented:
The two-stage and, more recently, also up to five-stage spur gearheads (Figure 2) of compact or space-saving flatline construction design can be combined without difficulty, for example, with split pole motors, capacitor motors or DC permanent magnet motors. Thanks to the direct toothed motor shaft the motors can be installed on the various gearheads without any problem. The motor shaft teeth are designed in such a way that it can be used for a large number of reductions.

...with interesting innovations
The single and multi-stage planetary gearheads are combined either with permanent magnet direct current voltage motors, brushless DC internal rotor motors or external rotor motors. New to the range are variants with plug-on flanges, e.g. also for instalment on the standardised NEMA stepper motors (NEMA = National Electrical Manufacturers Association). The new planetary standard gearheads of the Performax Pgp Series (Figure 3), which was presented for the first time at the 2004 Hanover Fair, are distinguished by their reasonable price in spite of tremendous smooth running and reliability. The gearheads have helical teeth and are currently among the shortest planetary gearheads on the market. Each gearhead stage is optimally designed for its respective load, for example by selecting the basic materials and tooth sizes to suit the respective stages. The tooth geometry has been optimised with the help of high performance software programmes, which, for example, take the tool design and the number of processing phases into account. Further extension of the high availability standard modular range is planned for 2005 and 2006.
"Keep-Word-Warranty" drive motors: New Standard Range Catalogue with practical selection tool
All drive solutions from the Zeitlauf standard modular range that can be supplied within 48 hours are contained in a new, very clearly-structured catalogue. A detachable configurator makes it easy to select among the 1,752 possibilities. The drive solutions are sorted according to output for this purpose. In order to select, one simply has to set the selection disc of the configurator accordingly. Then all the important key figures, such as output torque, number of revolutions, gearhead or motor type appear in a window on the disc with the reference to the page in the catalogue on which all further technical details are clearly represented. The almost 90-page catalogue is illustrated in colour throughout and is available free of charge to those interested in our products. The newly designed homepage of the manufacturer also has a practical configuration tool to simplify choosing the appropriate AC or DC solution.
Another feature worth mentioning that Zeitlauf® offers its customers initially only until 30.06.2005: with the "Keep-Word-Warranty" for standard modular range gearhead motors Zeitlauf undertakes the obligation to repair any defective drive within a year of purchase up to two times or to replace it by a new one. This customer-friendly warranty service applies as of the date of purchase also for quantities of less than 20.
